Democracy is a system of government based on popular sovereignty, which means that the power of any political actor is legitimised by every spectrum of civil society. Unfortunately, many societies demonstrate a progressive deflation of active political participation of the general public – especially women, LGBTQI+, and migrants – which undermines democracy, its values and even its outputs.
Considering this trend of low political participation – especially women, LGBTQI+, and migrants – we are looking at local communities and organising events that enable a flowing, harmonious dialogue between different actors to understand the participation barriers, what can be done to remove these barriers, and by whom.
This programme aims to provide new tools to engage civil society in actions that lead to a more active political participation, and rise of new leaders that promote the engagement of citizens in the governance and development of their societies, based on freedom and human rights. Promoting a shift of politics to a more inclusive and equal perspective by engaging and supporting the joining of women, LGBTQI+, and migrants in the political sphere. Providing them with training, tools and political advising on how to navigate in a realm usually characterised by male and white perspectives.
